Showcasing alluring artistry and creativity painted across human canvases, Japanese makeup artist Ayami Nishimura’s eponymously named book displays her unfettered imagination and provocative flair. The book, shot by innovative photographer Rankin, captures saturated, dreamy human landscapes adorned with intense color and surreal beauty. With over ten years of experience, Nishimura has rightfully earned her place in the industry, beautifying the covers of prestigious fashion magazines and the faces of countless celebrities. Ayami Nishimura, the product of a couple years worth of labor, is the first in a series of beauty books photographed by Rankin.
“Beauty is a moment,” according to Nishimura. In that case, Ayami Nishimura is filled with moments of exquisite elegance from beginning to end. Page after page offer up eye popping photographs showcasing Nishimura’s experimentation with paints, flowers, glitter, and wicked contacts. Not only does Nishimura push the boundaries of her artistry, she goes beyond the role of makeup artist to play with the larger space as well. “Set design was really important because I like the full, printed image to tell the story; I like to fill the space,” states Nishimura in her interview with Hunger TV.
Nishimura and Rankin successfully fill each page with imaginative vision, glistening faces, and ethereal aesthetic.
The Ayami Nishimusra by Rankin book is available at the following outlets: Amazon, Ingram, Hennessy and Ingalls, Arcana, Powells, Kinokuniya.
