Crowd Surfing: Grimes

Photographed by:Yudo Kurita

Following the release of her critically acclaimed and heavily hyped third album, Visions, Montreal-based and up-and-coming artist Grimes enchanted a sold-out crowd at the Echo with her beat-driven synth music and sensuous falsetto. Though fellow Canadians Born Gold and Bay Area native Lady Tragik kicked off the night, Grimes, whose real name is Claire Boucher, rocked her one-woman show with just the essentials, a mic and keyboards. Boucher's performance was hypnotic; by the end of the night, we were drunk off her seductive stage presence and charming coupling of electro-pop beats and elfish coos. There's something undeniably spellbinding about Grimes.
