Hans Urlich Obrist in conversation.
Hans Ulrich Obrist. The very name alone strikes fear into the hearts of art jounalists. The Co-Director of Exhibitions Programs, and the Director of International Projects, at London's mighty Serpentine Gallery is well known for his Interview Project, which has tallied over 2,500 recorded hours of interviews and talks with pretty much every artist alive (as well as an array of other great thinkers), and that's a daunting amount (I probably have, like, 40 tops). Institute of the 21st Century (i21c) is a "non-profit initiative to stabalize and digitally support the entirety of Obrist's Interview Project." The i21c was begun by Obrist, L.A. native Bettina Korek (ForYourArt), and Karen Marta (HUO's longtime editor). It's a daunting task, but something tells me when they've done it, we'll be referring back to Obrist time and again for eliciting the most definitive responses from rare subjects. To celebrate the initiative's launch Obrist will host a series of talks and events at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) and ForYourArt on Sunday through Tuesday. The schedule is below:
